Partnerships play a key role in the success of Atlantic Forest conservation, as they combine resources and expertise to foster knowledge about the territory, thus generating value for society as a whole.

At Legado das Águas, our partnerships help strengthen area monitoring and oversight, raise environmental awareness, and ensure effective implementation of conservation strategies for our forest.

In 2012, our founding companies signed a protocol of intent with the São Paulo State Government, committing to protect the area through shared management. This facilitated advances in scientific research, environmental education, public use, protection of endangered species, and socioeconomic development in the Vale do Ribeira, in the interior of São Paulo. The protocol was renewed in 2020, reaffirming that Legado is on the right path by demonstrating the value of conservation combined with green economy initiatives.

Legado das Águas is part of the Portal of the Atlantic Forest, the first Ecological Tourism District in Brazil. This district is part of a set of initiatives by the São Paulo Tourism and Travel Department (Setur-SP) to promote sustainable development through tourism, while supporting the conservation of one of the planet’s most biodiverse and threatened biomes.

Legado das Águas forms part of the largest ecological corridor of Atlantic Forest in the country, the Great Atlantic Forest Reserve, spanning three states, 60 municipalities, and over 100 protected areas. It encompasses 2.7 million hectares of land and 2.2 million hectares of marine area.

Legado das Águas holds a Term of Authorization for conducting tourism activities in Jurupará State Park, a state conservation unit. The aim of the partnership is to offer integrated ecotourism experiences, including biking, waterfall trails, and rafting on the Juquiá River.

Collaborations with educational and research institutions are essential for conserving and understanding the biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest. These partnerships enable detailed studies of the biome’s fauna and flora, increasing our understanding of ecological processes and the impacts of climate change. They also drive innovation in conservation initiatives, promoting more informed decisions that enhance long-term monitoring efforts.
